The PUGE Leadership Compass · Lesson 2 of 4

Purpose and Understanding

Purpose answers why you are here and who you are becoming. It turns activity into direction.

Understanding is the discipline of learning people and situations before judging them — listening long enough to be changed by what you hear.

Why it matters

In practice

  • A student leader interviews ten classmates before proposing a change.
  • A club rewrites its mission after realizing who it was leaving out.
