Social Cohesion · Lesson 1 of 4

What Social Cohesion Is — and Isn't

Social cohesion is the strength of relationships and the sense of solidarity among people who may be different, but choose to live, work and thrive together.

It is not agreement, sameness, or the absence of conflict. It is about respecting differences and working together anyway.

Why it matters

Cohesive communities solve problems together; fragmented ones spend their energy defending themselves from each other.

In practice

  • Neighbors who vote differently run the same food drive.
  • A team argues hard in the meeting and executes as one afterward.

Your reflection
